The Lavender Scare shows how the Cold War created hysteria, linking communism to homosexuality. The hysteria forced homosexual government workers out of their jobs. Those affected created and joined the Mattachine Society and The Daughters of Bilitis, beginning the debates and protests for LGBTQ+ rights.
